The continuous global growth of the use of wind power is making it increasingly important to obtain accurate wind speed/power forecasts. Accurate wind speed forecasts are necessary to schedule dispatchable generation and tariffs in the day-ahead electricity market.
Rapid changes in wind speed and direction can often cause wind farms to deviate significantly from scheduled deliveries, forcing grid operators to tap into the spot market to keep the transmission grid balanced.
